Bystander Intervention Training Requirements
Several jurisdictions around the United States suggest the inclusion of bystander intervention as part of anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training. The City of Chicago mandates that all employers with at least one employee working in the city provide bystander intervention training in addition to their anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training. This ordinance highlights the growing importance of empowering bystanders to proactively address and prevent harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
In response to this requirement, EEO Training has developed two versions of bystander intervention training:
Chicago-specific version: This version is designed to meet the specific requirements of the Chicago ordinance, ensuring employers in the city can comply with the law.
General version: This version is suitable for employers in other jurisdictions across the United States, providing comprehensive training on bystander intervention best practices to foster a safer and more inclusive workplace.
This approach allows EEO Training to cater to the specific needs of Chicago employers while also offering a valuable resource for organizations nationwide that prioritize a respectful and inclusive work environment.
